Patriarch Bartholomew Discussed the Situation in Ukraine with the Archon

The head of the Phanar met with Pantelis Buburas, a Greek businessman, archon of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and honorary consul of Greece in Kherson. During the meeting, they discussed the humanitarian and religious situation in Ukraine.

According to the Orthodox Times, Pantelis Buburas, who lives and conducts business in Ukraine, briefed Patriarch Bartholomew on the latest developments in the country. After the meeting, Buburas noted that “he is impressed not only by Patriarch Bartholomew’s constant attention to Ukraine and Ukrainian believers, but also by his deep knowledge of what is happening on the ground.” According to the businessman, the Patriarch is fully aware of the situation facing the country’s residents amid the ongoing war.

As a reminder, earlier, during an official meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas, Patriarch Bartholomew sharply criticized nationalism within church circles. He emphasized that the resurgence of ethnophyletism has become a serious obstacle to Orthodox unity and placed the blame for the current schism on the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church.
