Pavel Stolypin's great-grandson appealed to Zelenskyy to preserve the burial site at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Maksym Ostapenko, Director General of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, reported that the great-grandson of former Russian Empire Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin had sent a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In his letter, the descendant of the historical figure asks that Stolypin’s grave be left on the grounds of the Lavra, citing Stolypin’s role as a reformer.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, Maksym Ostapenko noted that the issue of the grave’s fate has repeatedly been the subject of debate. Although Stolypin is a controversial figure in the Ukrainian context, the position of his great-grandson—who takes a pro-Ukrainian stance—was taken into account.
According to the reserve’s director general, a tacit agreement has now been reached: the grave will not be disturbed until the end of the full-scale war. This decision is based on respect for the request of Stolypin’s relatives, who openly support Ukraine and share European values.
As a reminder, Pyotr Stolypin was fatally wounded at the Kyiv Opera House in 1911 and was subsequently buried near the Trapezna Church on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
