Mass Baptisms in Mozambique: The Orthodox Church Welcomes Dozens of New Believers

Three large-scale worship services were held in Mozambique throughout June, during which dozens of Mozambicans converted to Orthodoxy. These events indicate a significant expansion of the Orthodox community in the region, according to the Život Crkve website.

The most recent mass baptism took place on June 20 in the village of Muluma (Niassa Province). At the Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle, Father Hristo Sitoe, rector of the Holy Trinity Parish in Maputo, performed the sacrament for 26 local residents. According to the African Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church, after the ceremony, the priest visited the homes of the new converts to bless them, and the very next day, the believers received Holy Communion for the first time during the Divine Liturgy.

It is worth noting that June proved to be a particularly fruitful month for missionary work in northern Mozambique. Earlier, on June 6, Father Hristo baptized 22 people in Zambezia Province, and on June 13, 38 residents of the village of Tomboe joined the Orthodox Church.
