In Nigeria, 28 Christians were killed in a terrorist attack

Another tragedy has struck in Plateau State, Nigeria: 28 people, including a local church pastor, were killed during a nighttime raid by an armed group. According to Christian Today, the attack on the village of Kavel in Bokkos District was carefully planned and targeted the Christian community.

Eyewitnesses report that the attackers, identified as Fulani militants, struck the village around 2 a.m. According to local residents, the terrorists specifically sought out church leaders, calling them by name, which indicates that the militants had prior information about the village’s residents. Due to the deliberate shutdown of telecommunications networks, residents were unable to call emergency services or request assistance from security forces.

Among the dead were Reverend Marcus Nyam, pastor of the Church of Christ in the Nations (COCIN), as well as several members of his congregation. Church leaders in the region officially confirmed the death of the spiritual leader, expressing their condolences to his family and loved ones.

According to the Open Doors World Watch List 2026 report, Nigeria remains the country with the highest level of persecution against Christians: during the period in question, nearly 72% of all Christians who fell victim to religious persecution worldwide were killed there. Experts note that radical elements among the Fulani are employing tactics similar to those used by groups such as Boko Haram and ISIS, seeking to seize land and forcibly impose their ideology. The situation is further complicated by the activities of new extremist groups, such as “Lakurawa,” which pose a critical threat to the security of the civilian population in the region.
