Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel will pay an official visit to Jerusalem

Patriarch Daniel, Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, will make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem from September 25 to 29. The visit will take place at the official invitation of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem.

The highlight of the trip will be a joint Divine Liturgy, which the Primates of the two Churches will celebrate on September 27, the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. At present, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is finalizing the composition of the delegation that will accompany the Patriarch.

In addition to spiritual fellowship, the visit’s program includes important diplomatic talks. One of the key topics will be a discussion of the project to build a pilgrimage center for Bulgarian citizens in Jordan, near the site of the Baptism of the Lord. This initiative became possible thanks to a proposal by an advisor to the King of Jordan, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, who is prepared to allocate a plot of land for the needs of Bulgarian pilgrims.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church had officially invited Patriarch Bartholomew to visit Bulgaria in October of this year.
