The Patriarchate of Jerusalem has established a special commission on Cyprus

Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem announced the establishment of a special commission whose work will focus on issues related to church property in Cyprus. The decision was announced on September 15, 2026, during a meeting with the head of the Nicosia administration, Charalambos Prunzos. This was reported by , the press service of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

According to an official statement from the Patriarchate’s press service, the new body will operate under the Economic Service and will be responsible for the management and development of real estate owned by the Church of Jerusalem on the island. The commission’s activities will be overseen in close cooperation with the Patriarchate’s Exarchate in Cyprus, headed by Metropolitan Timotheos of Vostr, as well as with the support of the Nicosia City Hall.

The meeting between representatives of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Cypriot delegation—which was also attended by Stavros Mariou, the Republic of Cyprus’s diplomatic representative in Ramallah—underscores the significance of the Church’s properties outside the Holy Land. Following the conclusion of the official portion of the program, the mayor of Nicosia visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where he was accompanied by Metropolitan Isichius of Kapitolias.
