Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Pope's special envoy, plans to visit Moscow

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Pope’s Special Envoy for the Resolution of the Conflict in Ukraine and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, has announced his upcoming visit to the Russian capital. The trip is scheduled for late September and will be devoted to continuing work on humanitarian issues.

According to and the TASS news agency, a Vatican representative confirmed these plans during a presentation of the program for the celebrations in Assisi. The details of the visit are currently being finalized, and the schedule for the cardinal’s stay in Moscow is still being worked out.

It should be noted that diplomatic contacts between the Vatican and Russia remain active. For example, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, head of the Vatican’s diplomatic service, visited Moscow in late August. During that visit, talks were held with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov.
