Patriarch John X of Antioch Discussed Orthodox-Catholic Dialogue with Cardinal Kurt Koch at the Vatican

John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, met with Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, in Rome. The key topic of the talks was the development of ecumenical dialogue between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, as well as the importance of joint efforts to strengthen Christian unity, according to Orthodox Times.
During the discussion, Patriarch John X emphasized that the Orthodox Church of Antioch has traditionally played a pioneering role in building bridges between denominations. According to him, dialogue is an integral part of the Church’s mission, combining fidelity to its own identity with the principles of tolerance and openness, which is particularly important for overcoming differences.
For his part, Cardinal Kurt Koch noted the warm and constructive relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the Patriarchate of Antioch. The parties also discussed in detail the current challenges related to the practical implementation of official documents adopted within the framework of the Joint Theological Commission, which is intended to bring the positions of the two Churches closer together.
