King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Christian holy sites in the Holy Land

During his address at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly , King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed his country’s commitment to protecting Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserving their historical and legal status.

In his address to world leaders, King Abdullah II emphasized that Jordan will continue to fulfill its historic mission of protecting Christian heritage and presence in the Holy Land. He noted that the Kingdom remains committed to its obligations under the Hashemite custodianship of the Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. ““We protect Christianity—its communities and heritage—in its native and historic land,” the monarch stated.

Furthermore, King Abdullah II rejected attempts to portray the conflict in the Middle East as an interreligious clash, emphasizing that the key issue is respect for human rights and international law.
