In Poland, a Ukrainian man attacked a Roman Catholic monastery with a knife: one priest was killed

In Poland, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen carried out a knife attack on a Catholic Benedictine convent in the city of Jarosław in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, resulting in the death of one Catholic priest, and four other people, including two priests, were injured. The incident occurred on September 24, 2026, around 9:30 a.m., when the gates of the 17th-century convent were opened following a visit by a group of young people.

The attacker, , entered the grounds of the pilgrimage center and began stabbing random people. All of the victims were hospitalized, but one of the priests died in the hospital from his injuries. Doctors describe the condition of two other injured individuals as extremely critical. Children who were in the monastery and at the adjacent kindergarten were not harmed.

Police arrested the attacker at the scene of the crime and seized the murder weapon from him. The motives for the crime remain unknown at this time. Investigation teams from the police and the prosecutor’s office are working at the scene. The mayor of Yaroslav convened a meeting of the crisis management team with the participation of Teresa Kubas-Hul, the voivode of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
