Pope Leo called the war between Russia and Ukraine senseless

Returning from his four-day apostolic trip to France, Pope Leo XIV summarized the visit during a press conference aboard the plane, noting its significance for strengthening the faith and supporting young people. Among other things, the pontiff addressed the war between Russia and Ukraine, calling the conflict senseless and calling for its swift end.

Speaking about the ongoing confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, the Pope once again emphasized the senselessness of wars, which bring only destruction. He called on the leaders of both countries to sit down at the negotiating table, noting that the Church has a duty to promote the values of human dignity and dialogue, rather than increasing military spending that could instead be directed toward healthcare and education.

As a reminder, earlier, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, delivered a statement on the current status of the Vatican’s peacemaking efforts in Ukraine during the conference “Faith and Reason in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” in Rome. Vatican spokesperson described the results achieved so far as extremely insignificant.
