"Monastery" of the OCU in the Ivano-Frankivsk region refused to switch to a new style

Banya-Berezovsky Trinity “monastery” of the OCU in the Ivano-Frankivsk region refused to switch to a new style. An official statement on this matter was published on the “monastery’s” Facebook page.

The “Spiritual Council” of the monastery decided that the abbot and the brethren of the monastery do not support the so-called calendar reform and do not switch to the new calendar, which they call “uniate”.

“The abbot and brethren of the Holy Trinity Monastery, with sadness and pain in his soul, are watching the events that have developed in the life of our Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Events that concern every Orthodox Christian, the so-called calendar reform – the New Julian calendar (we would not call it New Julian , and more of the New Gregorian – because from the Julian calendar there remains only: Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, the Ascension of the Lord and Pentecost, and everything else from the Gregorian calendar). And again, we Orthodox Christians are forced to go to the “new union,” the statement says .

According to the inhabitants, they understand that “the Julian calendar is not perfect, but a perfect calendar does not exist. The so-called New Julian calendar is shameful due to the fact that some holidays, Peter’s fast disappear, our customs and traditions will disappear.”

“Each of us has a free will given by God, and no one can take it away from us,” the brethren of the “monastery” noted.
