Seminar of UGCC Exorcists Held in Western Ukraine

From May 12 to 15, 2025, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church held a training seminar for members of the Association of Exorcists at the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Seminary. The event was led by Bishop Dmytro Hryhorak, head of the UGCC Association of Exorcists. The information was published on the official website of the eparchy.
According to Fr. Roman Dubik, an exorcist of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy and Secretary of the Association, such closed formation meetings are held annually. “Their purpose is not only to improve clergy qualifications, but also to provide time for prayer and exchange of experience in this specific ministry,” he explained.
Throughout the four-day event, participants attended educational sessions. Special attention was paid to sharing practical experiences in the field of exorcism.
It is worth noting that the topic of exorcism in the UGCC has been a subject of controversy. For example, in 2018, Pope Francis dismissed nine monks from monastic life in the Ternopil region for conducting exorcisms without authorization from the Apostolic See.
Earlier we reported that Ukrainian Greek Catholics and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine are working together to improve the quality of education in schools and universities. On May 14, the UGCC’s Lviv Theological Seminary hosted the educational forum “Uniting the Efforts of Church and State: Creating a High-Quality Educational Environment for the Future.” The event served as a platform for sharing experiences, addressing pressing issues, and exploring paths to effective cooperation between the Church and the state in the education sector.
