A new Patriarch has been elected in Bulgaria

On June 30, 2024, the election and enthronement of the new Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church took place in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia. The new Bulgarian Patriarch was 52-year-old Metropolitan Daniel (Nikolov) of Vidin. This is reported by the official website of the Bulgarian Patriarchate.
«In an extremely difficult vote, the incumbent Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin was elected Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia in the second round of voting with 69 votes. Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa received 66 votes. Three ballots were recognized as invalid,» — reported on the website of the Patriarchate.
We will remind, earlier the hierarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin criticized the policy of the Patriarchate of Constantinople regarding the Ukrainian Church crisis. The hierarch is convinced that the local churches have good canonical reasons not to recognize the PCU, as many representatives of this structure have been deprived of apostolic reception or banned from serving for objective reasons.
