Lawyer spoke about the possible consequences of deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship by the Primate of the UOC

Ukrainian lawyer Yevgen Morozov spoke about the possible consequences of losing Ukrainian citizenship for the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy. Among the possible scenarios for further developments, the lawyer mentioned the loss of voting rights and the possibility of deportation from Ukraine. This was reported by Espreso.

According to the lawyer, once the relevant presidential decree comes into force, the citizen loses Ukrainian citizenship and cannot exercise the rights and obligations guaranteed to him by Ukrainian citizenship, namely:

  • the subject is removed from consular registration and will not be able to request diplomatic protection and assistance from Ukrainian missions abroad;
  • they will not be able to participate in the electoral process, vote in elections, or work in the civil service in Ukraine;
  • they lose the right to visa-free entry to the Schengen area, which is provided for Ukrainian citizens;
  • they lose the right to unlimited residence in Ukraine and employment without a permit;
  • if Ukraine has a visa regime with the country of the person’s new citizenship, the person will have to obtain a visa to stay in Ukraine.

Earlier, we reported that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church intends to challenge the termination of the citizenship of the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry, in court both in Ukraine and internationally. This was stated by the administrator of the UOC, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich), during a recent sermon.
