Trump: U.S. Supports Victims of Religious Persecution Under Totalitarian Regimes

U.S. President Donald Trump, in an address marking Captive Nations Week (July 20–26, 2025), emphasized the need to support all who suffer from religious persecution around the world. He stated that the United States will continue to defend religious liberty and the right to freely practice one’s faith. This was reported by the American platform klove.com.
«All too often, repressive regimes still silence their citizens and persecute them for their faith,» Trump stressed. He noted that his administration is working to strengthen international mechanisms protecting freedom of conscience through the State Department, the White House Faith Office, and the Commission on International Religious Freedom.
Previously, it was reported that a U.S. federal court temporarily blocked a Washington state law that would criminalize clergy for refusing to disclose information shared in confession — including cases involving abuse of minors. The law, which was set to take effect in a few days, imposed up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 for maintaining confessional secrecy.
