Poll: More than 90% of Ukrainians believe in higher powers and consider family as the main guardian of traditions

A new sociological survey conducted in Ukraine has revealed a high level of religiosity among the population: more than 90 percent of citizens believe in God or a higher power. The survey also showed that Ukrainians consider the family a key institution for preserving traditions, and the most significant holidays for the nation are Easter and Christmas.
According to the portal «Slovo pro Slovo», referring to the data of a survey by the Zagoriy Foundation and the center «Socis», 74.9% of Ukrainians believe in God, and another 15.6% recognize the existence of a higher power. At the same time, 14.8% of respondents attend religious services regularly (every week), while the majority takes part in religious services several times a year.
Traditions are considered an important part of social life by 60% of respondents. According to the survey, the most influential centers for preserving customs were Kyiv and Prykarpattya. Ukrainians named family(83.7%), school (46.4%) and Church (41.3%) as the main carriers of traditions. The presence of their own family traditions was confirmed by 75.7% of survey participants.
The most important holidays for Ukrainian citizens are Easter(95.2%) and Christmas(94.6%). Also among the important dates are the Day of Defenders and Protectors of Ukraine (88.1%), Independence Day (87.4%) and Trinity (84%).
The survey also touched upon the language issue: 59.1% of respondents reported that they communicate exclusively in Ukrainian at home. In total, more than 3 thousand people from eight historical regions of the country took part in the survey.
We shall remind you that the Ukrainian Institute of Sociological Research «Razumkov Center» has conducted another opinion poll on the trust of Ukrainians in public institutions operating in the country. According to the published data, the Church, as a set of religious organizations, is trusted less than the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteer organizations.
