Georgian Prime Minister invited the Pope to visit the country

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has sent an official invitation to the Pope to visit the country during his visit to Rome. It is assumed that the Pontiff’s visit may be timed to coincide with a significant date – the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity, which Georgia will celebrate next year.

As 1tv.ge reports, the head of the Georgian government emphasized the special significance of this event. According to him, in the context of the upcoming anniversary, the arrival of the head of the Catholic Church would be “very interesting and important.”

“I have invited the Pope to Georgia. This visit will be very significant. As you know, next year Georgia celebrates the 17th century anniversary of the adoption of Christianity, and in this context the Pope’s visit to Georgia would be very interesting. I have conveyed this invitation to the Pope. We hope that he will visit Georgia,” Kobakhidze said.

Earlier we reported that the hegumen of the Athonite monastery Vatoped Elder Ephrem made an official visit to the capital of Georgia, where he made a speech at the City Council of Tbilisi and brought a miracle-working icon for the worship of the faithful. The visit, which took place in a warm and touching atmosphere, was aimed at strengthening the centuries-old spiritual ties between Georgia and the Holy Mount Athos.
