"Switched to Muslims": the SBU conducted an inspection in a Kiev mosque

Security Service of Ukraine officers carried out “security measures” in the main mosque of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “UMMA” in Kiev, which caused sharp criticism from religious figures. The incident occurred directly during Friday prayers, when believers were gathering to perform namaz.

According to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, Mufti of the DUMU “UMMA” Murat Suleymanov expressed his indignation at the actions of law enforcers. According to him, SBU officers checked the documents of believers and prevented them from getting to the prayer. “It seemed like some kind of bad dream. As if we are in the Russian Federation, and not in the capital of the state, which is struggling for its existence,” the Mufti commented on the situation.

Murat Suleymanov also recalled that before the full-scale invasion the Umma DUMU had already faced accusations of links with extremist organizations. He characterized those accusations as “dirty competition using corrupt methods, cheap media and anonymous pages in social networks”.
