The abbess of the UOC nunnery in Baturyn reported on the details of the seizure of the monastery by officials and police

The abbess of the Krupitsky Nicholas Monastery of the UOC in Baturyn Dorofeya told about the forced seizure of the monastery by representatives of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Hetman’s Capital” with the participation of the police on January 27, 2026. According to her, the law enforcers sealed the premises of the monastery without a court decision and prior notice.

According to the Telegram channel “Dozor on the First Kazatsky”, officials and police demanded that the nuns “voluntarily” leave the monastery, but the nuns refused to sign the documents. The law enforcers sealed the cells and household buildings, forcing the nuns out into the cold and breaking down the doors to the temple. The sisters were left without access to the temple and one of the residential buildings.

Abbess Dorofeya emphasized that the monastery was rebuilt by the nuns from the ruins. “We were raising this monastery from the ruins… And everything we were able to do was now in the hands of strangers,” she said. The nuns took refuge in the abbess’ small enclosure, and Mother Dorothea refused to sign the documents. She appealed to the US President and Congress to stop the lawlessness against Orthodox believers.

“I’m not going anywhere. And my sisters will not leave. Because this is our home,” – noted the Abbess.

We will remind, earlier we reported that in the National historical and cultural reserve “Hetman’s capital” there was an incident with the eviction of the sisters of Baturynsky Krupitsky St. Nicholas nunnery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Chernihiv region). The actions, according to the monastery representatives, were carried out without a court decision and with the participation of law enforcement agencies, despite the existence of a valid agreement on the use of premises and official registration of the nuns at their place of residence.
