MP Ihor Huz announces the imminent eviction of monks from the Miletsky Monastery of the UOC and the transfer of the monastery to the OCU

The process of transferring the Mykolaiv Miletsky Monastery from the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) has been initiated in the Volyn region. According to MP Ihor Huz, representatives of the OCU guarantee the prosperity of monastic and pilgrimage life in the monastery after the transfer is completed, while the regional authorities have already begun legal proceedings to evict the current residents.
According to the information published by the MP on his Facebook page, Guz visited Volyn Polissya, where he held a series of meetings with local activists and clerics of the OCU. Following the trip, the politician said that the monastery in the village of Miltsi would officially change jurisdiction in the near future. He emphasized that this place should become «the center of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in Polissya,» and that the new religious structures will ensure its comprehensive development.
In parallel with the administrative processes, legal pressure on the current monastery brethren is increasing. It has become known that the Volyn Regional Military Administration filed a lawsuit with the court demanding the forced eviction of the UOC monks. The reason for this was the expiration of the lease agreement for the premises, which expired on January 1, 2026.
Previously, a special commission worked in the monastery to measure architectural structures, which caused serious concern among parishioners and believers of the UOC. Despite the community’s request to extend the lease and preserve the existing way of life of the monastery, government agencies and politicians insist on transferring the shrine to the OCU.
Earlier, we reported that the brethren and parishioners of St. Nicholas Monastery in the village of Miltsi, Volyn region, appealed to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Congresswoman Anna Pauline Luna to protect their religious rights from the threat of eviction. The monastery, which has a history of about 700 years, is at risk of being evicted after the lease expires.
