"Peace, not a ceasefire!": the Kremlin commented on Zelensky's proposal to stop hostilities for the Easter period

The Kremlin has expressed skepticism towards Vladimir Zelensky’s initiative to introduce an Easter truce. The Russian side insists on the need for long-term political decisions rather than a temporary ceasefire, interpreting Kiev’s proposal as a forced measure under the current situation on the front.

According to the Interfax news agency, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Ukrainian leadership is «desperate for a ceasefire.» According to Peskov, Moscow expects Zelensky to be ready to «take responsibility and make an appropriate decision» to achieve peace conditions rather than a short-term pause in hostilities.

«From those statements by Zelensky that we read, we did not see a clearly formulated initiative for an Easter truce. He, as always, spoke about readiness and willingness to go for a truce, any kind of truce, even an Easter truce. This is what President Zelensky was talking about. We repeat once again: Zelensky should take responsibility and take appropriate decisions so that we go to peace, not a truce», — said the press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

We will remind, earlier Vladimir Zelensky announced the readiness to introduce a ceasefire, in particular for the period of celebration of Easter. The main condition for the realization of this initiative called a complete and real cessation of attacks from the Russian Federation.
