The RCC accused German hierarchs of betraying Christian fundamentals

Bishop Athanasius Schneider of the Roman Catholic Church has strongly criticized the leadership of the Catholic Church in Germany, accusing it of pandering to leftist ideology. German hierarchs have betrayed the foundations of the Christian faith, adjusting themselves to the political attitudes of the ruling parties. Schneider said this in an interview with the German newspaper Junge Freiheit.
Schneider called the German bishops «cowardly accomplices» of the modern «spirit of the times» and predicted historical dishonor for their rejection of church canons. He said the current ideology in Europe functions as «refined totalitarianism.» The bishop drew a parallel between modern methods of excluding dissenters and the practices of the Soviet dictatorship, from which members of his family suffered in the past.
The clergyman was particularly concerned about the issue of mass migration. He characterized the influx of Muslims into Europe as a «clearly planned political action» aimed at eroding the Christian identity of the region. In this regard, Schneider called on Europeans to unite in a new movement to defend natural law, reason and traditional family values.
These statements were made against the background of general fears in the religious environment: earlier representatives of the Vatican also recorded the growth of Christianophobia in Western countries, which confirms the bishop’s words about the systemic crisis of traditional institutions.
Earlier we reported that Cardinal Reinhard Marx, who has headed the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising since 2008, officially ordered the introduction of the practice of blessing same-sex couples and divorced Catholics who have remarried.
