Representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Anglican Communion discussed the prospects for dialog at the Phanar

on May 21 and 22, the Phanar hosted two days of informal consultations between representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Anglican Communion. The main focus of the meetings was on strengthening mutual trust and preparations for the upcoming plenary session of the International Commission for Theological Dialogue.

According to the information resource Orthodoxia.info, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest and the current priorities of each church tradition. Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium (co-chair of the international commission), Metropolitan Job of Pisidia and Metropolitan Maximos of Silivria represented the Orthodox side at the talks. On the side of the Anglican Communion, the co-chair of the commission Michael Lewis, Primate Mark Strange of the Episcopal Church of Scotland, and experts on faith and church unity participated in the discussion.

As part of the visit, the participants in the dialog were received by Patriarch Bartholomew. The Primate of the Church of Constantinople welcomed the members of both delegations and encouraged them to continue their active cooperation. Parallel to the main discussions, a meeting of the coordinating committee was held, at which the details of the next official meeting were agreed upon.

The final plenary session of the dialog is scheduled for September of this year. It will be held in Alexandria at the invitation of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. Concluding the meeting at the Phanar, the representatives of the delegations expressed their deep gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for organizing the talks and hospitality.
