Ukraine and Switzerland Have Agreed to Restore the Assumption Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Says Zelenskyy

Ukraine has reached an agreement with the Swiss Confederation on funding restoration work at the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which was previously damaged in a drone attack. Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that during negotiations with the Swiss president, priority steps for the restoration of the site were identified.

At this time, measures have already been taken at the site to preserve the damaged areas. According to a report by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, specialists from the State Emergency Service promptly covered the cathedral’s roof, which will prevent further damage to the structure caused by adverse weather conditions.

Going forward, the reconstruction process will be overseen by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. President Zelenskyy emphasized the need to ensure a high-quality restoration of this national shrine. The minister’s report also addressed security issues, including the organization of security along the country’s northern borders by border guards and the National Guard, as well as efforts to address the aftermath of shelling in several regions.
