Restoration work on the roof of the damaged Cathedral of the Dormition at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has been completed

Rescue workers from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) have completed work to preserve the roof of the Assumption Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which was damaged by Russian shelling on June 15. This was reported byUkrinform, citing information from the SES.

As noted by SES Head Andriy Danik, work to protect the shrine from further destruction was carried out under difficult conditions for more than a week. Specialists completed 100% of the planned emergency restoration work. Currently, heat guns are still in operation at the site to dry out the cathedral’s structural elements and interior spaces.

In total, more than 100 rescue workers and over 25 pieces of specialized equipment were deployed to address the aftermath of the attack on the Lavra’s grounds. It should be recalled that during the massive strike on June 15, in addition to the Cathedral of the Dormition, 18 other cultural heritage sites were damaged, including the Kushnik Tower. “The strike on one of Ukraine’s most sacred sites revealed the true nature of the aggressor, the agency head emphasized.

As a reminder, we previously reported that Greece had declared its readiness to support the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site damaged as a result of the Russian attack on June 15. Athens intends to fund preparatory studies for the restoration of the complex and to expand cooperation with Ukraine in the field of cultural heritage protection.
