The Ukrainian government has approved a plan to establish a National Pantheon on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially approved the procedure for establishing the “Ukrainian National Pantheon,” which will be located on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve. According to Government Resolution No. 871, the project is intended to commemorate Ukraine’s outstanding historical figures.
As stated in the document published on the government portal, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory is responsible for developing the concept and academic framework of the pantheon. Its tasks include not only providing scholarly support for the project but also organizing public hearings and determining forms of commemoration befitting the significance of the complex.
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has been tasked with selecting the exact location for the memorial within the Lavra complex, strictly adhering to cultural heritage protection laws. An architectural competition will be held to implement the project.
The government has paid particular attention to the issue of reburying prominent Ukrainians who are buried outside the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will handle this matter in cooperation with relevant agencies. The process involves verifying identities and conducting international negotiations to obtain permits for the exhumation and repatriation of the remains. Funding for the construction and ongoing maintenance of the memorial complex will come from both the state budget and other lawful sources.
