Former MP Criticizes Decision to Build a National Pantheon at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Plans to create a National Pantheon of Heroes on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra have sparked a major public outcry. Former People’s Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk sharply criticized the project, stating that large-scale construction on the grounds of the UNESCO-protected holy site would lead to its destruction. The politician expressed concerns about the preservation of the Lavra’s unique caves and historical sites.

In his interview, Mosiychuk emphasized that the project’s implementation could have not only architectural but also profound spiritual consequences. According to the former lawmaker, the creation of a pantheon where members of various faiths not associated with Orthodoxy could be buried could provoke interfaith conflict. The politician claims that the decision on the construction rests solely with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada previously passed a law on the creation of the National Pantheon, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has already presented the first details of the project.
