A hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church accused Zelenskyy of perjury for breaking his promise to receive the Sacrament of Baptism after winning the election

Gedeon (Charon), a retired bishop of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), accused Volodymyr Zelenskyy of perjury. The hierarch noted that prior to the Ukrainian presidential election, Zelenskyy visited the Primate and other bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, promising that, if he won the election, he would receive the Sacrament of Baptism in the UOC. He spoke about this in an interview with TASS.

“To understand Zelenskyy, one must start with the most important point. What good can a perjurer say? He is, to put it simply, a perjurer. Why is that? When he was running for office—we know that his wife is Orthodox and his children were baptized in the canonical Orthodox Church—he said: ‘If I become president, and God wills it, I will convert to Orthodoxy. I will ask that you perform the Sacrament of Baptism on me.” But he did not do this. And when grace does not enter a person, an unclean spirit enters him. And that is exactly what happened,” said the bishop.

As a reminder, we previously reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bill establishing criminal liability for acts of anti-Semitism in the country.
