Authorities in the Ternopil region have transferred yet another church to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church for its use

Authorities in the Chortkiv District of the Ternopil Region have officially granted the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) the right to use the church building in the village of Verkhnjakovtsy free of charge. The corresponding decision was formalized on July 22, 2026.

According to a Facebook post by the Chortkiv District State Administration ( ), the process of transferring the property was initiated by the Chortkiv District Military Administration. The commission that made this decision was headed by the head of the district administration, Volodymyr Shipitko. The legal formalities for transferring the building to the “Parish of St. Paraskeva of Ternivka” of the Buchach Diocese of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was finalized with the signing of a deed of transfer; on behalf of the religious organization, the document was certified by the rector, Mykhailo Mankut.

According to official information, the transfer procedure took place on the basis of orders from both regional and district authorities. At present, the church building has been officially assigned to the Buchach Diocese of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church for the celebration of divine services and other church needs.

As a reminder, we previously reported that officials at the Kremenets-Pochaiv State Historical and Architectural Reserve were outraged by the unwillingness of nuns of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to leave the complex of buildings of the Holy Epiphany Convent in Kremenets, Ternopil Oblast. The “reserve” claims that the basis for the eviction is a relevant court ruling. At the same time, the nuns of the UOC not only live at the Epiphany Convent but are also officially registered there, and Ukrainian law prohibits the termination of lease agreements for religious buildings during a period of martial law.
