In Chernihiv, a clergyman from the Church of the Nativity of Christ of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was mobilized

In Chernihiv, officials from the Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) forcibly mobilized a clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to the Union of Orthodox Journalists, the incident occurred on October 11, 2026.

According to the information received, Archpriest Pavel Tovstogon, a clergyman at the Church of the Nativity of Christ, was stopped by military commissars while driving his own car around 4:00 p.m. Despite attempts to secure his release, he was taken to the military registration and enlistment office and subsequently mobilized.

The priest’s wife, Ksenia Koval, confirmed the conscription by posting a photo of her husband in military uniform on social media, accompanied by the caption: “Now I am a soldier’s wife.” The publication also notes that this is not the first time clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been mobilized; a similar incident was previously reported in the village of Kirdany.

As a reminder, on August 17, 2026, in the village of Khvorostov in the Volyn region, Archimandrite Anthony (Dzhezhela), the rector of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, was detained and forcibly mobilized. The Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church confirmed the incident and called on the faithful to offer their prayers in support of the clergyman.
