In 2025, France saw an increase in the number of anti-Christian incidents

According to the latest report from the French Ministry of the Interior, published in April 2025, the country has seen a significant increase in the number of religiously motivated acts of aggression. As reported by Christian Today, the number of anti-Christian incidents over the past year increased by 9%, reaching a total of 843 cases.

According to the report, the overwhelming majority of offenses (87%) are classified as property damage, including acts of vandalism, theft, arson, and graffiti. The statistics also included 71 cases of threats against believers, 23 incidents of physical violence, and one crime classified as murder or attempted murder. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez emphasized that in recent years, the country has faced a serious problem of resurgent anti-religious sentiment affecting all faiths.

An analysis of the situation over the past 15 years reveals complex dynamics. While the number of incidents targeting Christians rose from 500 to more than 1,000 between 2010 and 2016, the situation stabilized at the current level in subsequent years. Against this backdrop, the figures for other religions paint a different picture: the number of anti-Semitic incidents rose sharply in 2023 amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip, exceeding 1,500 cases, while the number of Islamophobic incidents, despite a slight increase last year, has historically remained at a relatively low level.

The French Ministry of the Interior acknowledges that official statistics do not reflect the full picture, as they do not account for all manifestations of hostility occurring on social media and online.
