Mass Baptism in Uganda: More Than 45 People Converted to Orthodoxy

On the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos (New Style) in the city of Jinja, Uganda, a solemn event took place: 46 people received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. This event marked the culmination of a celebration that brought together hundreds of believers from across the Diocese of Jinja and Eastern Uganda of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. This was reported by OrthoChristian.

Bishop Silvestr of Jinji presided over the Divine Liturgy and the rite of Baptism at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, concelebrated by the diocesan clergy. Among those baptized were both adults and children representing various parishes and communities in the region.

In his sermon, Bishop Silvestr called on the congregation to remain grateful to God in all circumstances, reminding them that the Lord leads every person to salvation. The bishop also focused on the figure of the Most Holy Mother of God, calling her an example of humility and obedience to God’s will. Citing the teachings of the Venerable Paissios of Mount Athos, the bishop emphasized that the Mother of God is always close to her children, sympathizes with them, and brings their prayers before Christ.

Addressing the newly baptized, Bishop Silvestr wished them steadfastness on their new spiritual journey. He also addressed the long-standing believers, calling on them to serve as worthy examples and spiritual mentors to those who have just chosen the path of service to Christ, helping them to grow stronger in the Orthodox faith.
