“The UOC will continue to live as a true Church” - Metropolitan Kliment

The head of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Klyment (Vecheria), commented on the possible future of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church after the adoption of the law “on the prohibition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.” The hierarch is convinced that the church will continue to exist despite the pressure from the state. The Metropolitan said this in a commentary to Hromadske.

“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church will continue to live as a true church, recognized by the overwhelming majority of practicing Ukrainian believers and local churches of the world. This is an objective thing. Any attempts to ban an objective thing will only lead to discredit, including at the international level, of those who would like to implement it somehow,” – the bishop believes.

Answering the question whether the UOC plans to unite with the OCU, Metropolitan Klyment noted that the UOC “has repeatedly called on the OCU to seek ways to unite Ukrainian Orthodoxy,” but “did not hear anything adequate in response.”

We will remind, earlier Metropolitan Kliment (Vecherya) commented on the legislative ban of the UOC. The bishop explained that it is impossible to ban the Church as any other legal organization, and such a decision of the Parliament will create more problems for the government, then for the UOC.
