“Russia's influence": Zelensky explained why the Pope opposed the law on banning the UOC

Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained to media representatives why Pope Francis opposed the law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He believes that the pontiff did not understand the issue because of Russia’s influence on the information space of Europe. This is reported by the publication “Glavcom”.

“Influence. There is influence abroad, in Europe on various religious institutions…. It is important not to lose touch with the Vatican, or with Italy, or with the information space of all of Europe and the United States. They have well-established institutions, big money, a lot of people everywhere — from business to politics and religion. Therefore: only work on a daily basis. And today there is one statement (from the Vatican — “Glavkom.”), and tomorrow, if you work, there may be another statement. The Church works abroad strongly,” — said Zelensky.

It should be noted that on August 25, 2024, Pope Francis made an address in which he mentioned the law No. 8371 adopted in the Ukrainian Parliament, aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The pontiff emphasized that no church in the world should be banned because it performs prayer against evil and unrighteousness.
