"Several Romanian-speaking religious communities of Bukovyna are ready to join OCU", - Head of Chernivtsi Eparchy of OCU

The head of the Chernivtsi Diocese of the OCU, Theognost Borodyak, said that there are several Romanian-speaking parishes in Bukovyna that could join the OCU. In his opinion, although these parishes have not yet expressed a desire to leave the UOC, the OCU is working to resolve this issue. Borodyak added that they will become part of the Romanian vicariate of the OCU. He said this in an interview with the regional edition of AСС.

“We are working with Romanian-speaking communities and I think that, if not by the end of this month, the transition will take place in the near future. There are at least three communities that are ready to move to the vicariate for Romanian speakers in our church. This issue is open, it is relevant, and we are working. But it is not a question of time, it does not work that way in the church, the issue can be open for a year, two years, or three years. Of course, we would like it to happen as soon as possible, but no one will force it. We want people to want it themselves, to feel that they are ready for such a step. We want everything to be properly organized in the church and state, so that nothing is violated,” — Borodyak said.

Earlier we reported that the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniel of Romania, called on the Romanian government to influence the Ukrainian authorities in connection with the scandal over the Three Saints’ Church, the tomb of the Bukovinian metropolitans of the Romanian-speaking parish of the UOC of Chernivtsi, which the city authorities sealed and transferred to the OCU. Patriarch Daniel believes that such actions of the Chernivtsi city authorities are pressure on the Orthodox Romanians of Bukovyna.
