The Ministry of Culture is outraged by Serbian documentary about the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has expressed indignation over the screening in Serbia of the documentary film “People of Christ — Our Time”, which is devoted to the persecution of the clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The film by the world-famous Emir Kusturica was considered by the Ministry of Culture as “propagandizing a distorted interpretation of events”. This was stated by one of the departments of the Ministry of culture — the State Agency of Ukraine on cinema.

“The State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema expresses concern over the demonstration in Serbia of the documentary film “People of Christ — Our Time”, Serbian director Emir Kusturica, which promotes a distorted interpretation of the events around the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. We consider such actions to be an attempt to manipulate public opinion and justify pro-Russian narratives that harm Ukraine and its national security. The State Film Agency of Ukraine appeals to the international community to resist and not to support attempts of disinformation that undermines unity and distorts the truth about the events in Ukraine amid ongoing aggression,” — the institution said in a statement.

We shall remind you that earlier the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine published a statement, according to which it is claimed that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church overestimated the number of participants in the annual procession from Kamyanets-Podilskyi to Pochaiv, which took place from 19 to 25 August 2024. The NSDC claims that instead of the reported 30,000 participants, there were only about 5,000 people in the procession.
