70% of all chaplains in the Armed Forces are representatives of the OCU

As of October 2024, more than 300 representatives of various denominations are listed as chaplains in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, most of whom are provided by the OCU. In addition to higher religious education, chaplains receive special training in military educational institutions. This is reported by the official Facebook page of the organization.
“As of today, 202 clergymen of the OCU have been appointed to the full-time positions of military chaplains of the Armed Forces. In total, 302 chaplains are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Therefore, almost 70% of all chaplains are from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” – the statement reads.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved amendments to the “Regulations on the procedure for issuing a mandate for the right to carry out military chaplaincy activities” in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the new amendments, the priests of the UOC are permanently prohibited from carrying out chaplaincy activities in the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
