95% of Moldovan citizens consider themselves Orthodox Christians

The National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova has released preliminary data from the 2024 population census. According to the published information, 95% of the population of Moldova considers themselves Christians of the Orthodox faith. This is reported on the website of the institution.

It is reported that 95.0% of the population of Moldova consider themselves Orthodox Christians, which indicates the predominance of Orthodoxy in the country. In addition, there are other religious beliefs in Moldova in a small amount, which are expressed as follows
— Baptists 1,1%
— Jehovah’s Witnesses: 0,7%.
— Pentecostals: 0,5%
— Adventists: 0,3%
— Atheists: 0,6%
— No religious affiliation: 0,8%.

It is worth noting that a completely different trend has been observed in Ukraine recently. Earlier, we reported that over the past two years of the war, the number of people who consider themselves atheists has doubled in the country. While before the full-scale invasion, 7% of respondents considered themselves atheists, now this figure has risen to 14%, and among young people aged 18-24, it is almost 39%.
