Earlier we reported that on October 4, 2024, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu visited the Republic of Moldova. During the visit, the Romanian Prime Minister met with the head of the Bessarabian Metropolis of the Romanian Patriarchate, Metropolitan Peter (Peduraru), to whom he promised to continue financial support for the structure of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Moldova.
Head of Bessarabian Metropolis calls to continue the cause of unification of Moldova and Romania

Metropolitan Petru (Peduraru), head of the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia of the Romanian Patriarchate, stated the need to continue the cause of uniting Moldova with Romania. He pointed out that “the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia, a living and historical part of the Romanian Orthodox Church, is today a proof that unity is not destroyed by borders.” The words of the bishop, spoken on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the union of Bessarabia with Romania, the official website of the Romanian Patriarchate reports.
“Today, as we celebrate the 107th anniversary of the union of Bessarabia with Romania, we thank God for this providential gift, for the courage of our predecessors and for the strength to remain united in spirit, in faith and in one identity. It was the beginning of a spiritual renewal: in schools, in parishes, in liturgical life and in cultural work. The Metropolis of Bessarabia blossomed thanks to worthy people — confessing bishops and priests, as well as believers who kept the flame of Romanian identity and Orthodoxy alive even in difficult times,” — the hierarch said.
The hierarch added that today, everything possible should be done to restore the lost connection between Romania and Moldova. He argued that every time someone recites the Lord’s Prayer in Romanian, it already contributes to the process of unification between Moldova and Romania.
“Unia, beloved brothers and sisters, is not a closed chapter, but a holy work that must continue. It is being built today through the mission of every parish, through the schools and nursing homes supported by our priests, through the involvement of young people in church life, through every child who learns the Lord’s Prayer in Romanian, and through every candle lit for the Romanian people,”, — Peduraru added.
