Patriarch Theophilos III’s Paschal Message: The Resurrection of Christ – Hope and Unity

On the eve of Orthodox Easter, which in 2025 will be celebrated simultaneously by both the Eastern and Western Churches on April 20, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem addressed his flock with a traditional Paschal message. In his address, he shared his thoughts on the significance of the Resurrection of Christ for Christians and for the world as a whole.

In the message, the Patriarch noted that the celebration of Easter is an act of deep gratitude for the gift of salvation we received through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. «With great joy, indescribable and overflowing, with thanksgiving and praise to our God, the holy Church of Christ celebrates this salvific night in which Christ conquered death, granting us new life through His Resurrection,» the message reads.

The Patriarch emphasized that Easter is not only a religious holiday but also a call to spiritual renewal. «This holiday reminds us of the greatness of God’s love and grace, which never abandons us, even in the most difficult moments of life. Through the Resurrection, we receive the hope of eternal life, regardless of our earthly difficulties,» he stated.

The Patriarch also highlighted the importance of unity among Christians, which should be strengthened through the joint celebration of Easter. «We must be united in faith, hope, and love, supporting one another on the path to salvation,» he said.

Concluding his message, Patriarch Theophilos III wished all the faithful peace, joy, and blessings in the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. «May this holy time be for us a time of joint prayer and spiritual unity, believing that Christ is Risen and grants us grace for each day,» the Patriarch concluded.

It is worth noting that on April 5, 2025, an online conversation took place between Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem and the abbot of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid). The First Hierarch of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church conveyed words of support to Metropolitan Pavlo and the monks of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery.
