In Kremenchuk, Local OCU Leader Announces Creation of the "Monastery of Jonah of Kyiv" on the Site of a Seized UOC Church

On July 19, 2025, a representative of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Agapit Humeniuk, held a religious service at the Seraphim Church in the city of Kremenchuk, which had previously been «transferred» to the OCU from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). During the event, he announced yet another change in the status of the religious institution — this time from a parish church to a so-called monastery. This was reported by Suspilne Poltava.

«With the blessing of His Beatitude Epiphaniy, from this day on your church becomes a monastery. You are no longer just a parish church and not just a parish community — from now on, you are a monastery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in honor of St. Jonah of Kyiv,» Humeniuk declared, addressing the OCU supporters present.

Earlier it was reported that the UOC church in Kremenchuk was left without electricity after OCU supporters initiated changes to the electricity supply documents. According to the diocese, representatives of the OCU fraudulently managed to re-register the contract with the power company, listing a religious organization that had no connection to the Holy Trinity Church of the UOC. Following this, a request was submitted to the power company for a temporary disconnection of electricity, allegedly due to repair work.
