The Supreme Court ordered the Ministry of Culture to transfer the Mykolaiv Church in the capital to the local Roman Catholic community

The Supreme Court of Ukraine has ordered the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy to transfer St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the Roman Catholic religious community of the capital. The parish of St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv reported that the Supreme Court of Ukraine (Cassation Administrative Court) rejected the cassation appeals of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine and the National House of Organ and Chamber Music. This was reported by CREDO.

It is reported that the Supreme Court found no grounds for overturning the decisions of the lower courts. These appeals concerned the decision of the Dnipropetrovsk District Administrative Court of January 24, 2025, and the ruling of the Third Administrative Court of Appeal of June 5, 2025.

“This means that the Ministry of Culture is now obliged to comply with the final court decision as soon as possible, since failure to comply with a court decision entails criminal liability,” – the Catholic community emphasized.

Earlier, we reported that the ancient St. Michael’s Church (Yuriev Church) in the city of Oster, Chernihiv region, whose construction dates back to the 11th century and is attributed to Princes Vladimir Monomakh and Yuri Dolgoruky, is gradually falling into disrepair due to the state’s inability to carry out proper restoration work. As of 2025, local representatives of the Department of Culture at the Chernihiv Regional State Administration cite the war as one of the reasons why restoration is impossible. However, judging by data from open sources, the state did not particularly work on preserving this architectural monument of national importance even before 2022.
