The Bulgarian Orthodox Church supported the introduction of the compulsory subject "Religion - Orthodoxy" in schools

The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC) has officially supported the initiative to introduce compulsory study of Orthodoxy in the country’s schools. This statement came after the Bulgarian National Assembly approved in the first reading the relevant amendments to the Education Act, which caused «special spiritual joy and satisfaction» for the hierarchs.

In its official address, the Synod expressed confidence that the introduction of the subject «Religion — Orthodoxy» will allow «all children and young people of our dear Fatherland to touch the treasury of holy Orthodoxy» and learn the basics of Christian virtues.

According to representatives of the Church, this legislative step is a restoration of the historical tradition of spiritual education and upbringing, which was interrupted «during the atheistic regime». The successful adoption of the amendments to the Law on Preschool and School Education is seen as an important stage in the spiritual revival of the nation.

In conclusion, the Holy Synod expressed its hope for the successful completion of the legislative process and reaffirmed its full readiness to make all necessary efforts for the quality Christian education of the younger generation. The full text of the address was published on the official website of the Bulgarian Patriarchate.

We shall remind you that earlier we reported that a new stage of the so-called «European education» started in Moldovan educational institutions. The Ministry of Education has prepared manuals for teachers explaining how to encourage gender reassignment in minors and how to respond to disagreement with LGBT ideology.
