The Prosecutor's Office achieved expropriation of the UOC church in Dnipropetrovsk region

At the suit of the Prosecutor’s Office of Dnipropetrovsk region, the court ordered to officially register the right of state ownership of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the city of Novomoskovsk (Samar), which is the tallest wooden church in Ukraine. The temple is a unique architectural monument of national importance and was previously used by the local Holy Trinity community of the UOC.
As reported in the Samarovsk District Prosecutor’s Office, the nine-domed temple with a height of more than 65 meters and its bell tower, built in the XVIII-XIX centuries, are unique examples of wooden architecture. Despite their status as monuments of national importance, their legal status was not properly formalized, which created risks for their preservation.
In this regard, the prosecutor’s office appealed to the court with the requirement to oblige the responsible authorities to register the ownership of the cultural objects with the state. The court fully supported the position of the prosecutor’s office, obliging to carry out the appropriate registration. The agency emphasized that “continue systematic work to protect the interests of the state in the field of protection of historical and cultural heritage throughout Ukraine”.
We will remind, earlier we reported that the Uman district prosecutor’s office achieved the return of the unique Cossack Trinity Church of the XVIII century, located in the village of Pugachevka, Uman district, Cherkassy region. This wooden three-domed building of 1761, which has the status of an architectural monument of national importance, was under the threat of destruction due to the inaction of the Cherkassy regional state administration in the registration of property rights. In addition, a few years earlier, the church had been taken away from the local religious community of the UOC in favor of the PCU.
