Churches transferred by the state to the OCU are falling into disrepair, UOC press service says

Despite loud statements about the «preservation of cultural heritage» and the transfer of existing churches to museum status, unique monuments of sacred architecture in Ukraine continue to decay. At the same time, no one has been held accountable for their condition. Another example is the St. Elias Church in the Sivershchyna, a unique defensive-type church that has no analogues in the Left Bank of Ukraine.

According to the Information and Education Department of the UOC, citing the Facebook page «Architecture of Ukraine,» the shrine suffered significant damage in the twentieth century and is now in a state of disrepair, with restoration work virtually suspended.

The network also reports that the church was transferred to the balance sheet of the UOC-KP. However, at present, the OCU community is actually operating this monument, and therefore responsible for its preservation.

As reported, the Synod of the OCU decided to create a new religious association, the Baturyn Mykola-Krupytsky Monastery. This event took place shortly after the authorities evicted the nuns of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) from the Krupytsia St. Nicholas Monastery, located in the Chernihiv region.
