Human rights activist Ihab Hassan declares the situation of Christians in the West Bank critical

Human rights activist Ihab Hassan expressed grave concern over increasing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian Christians in the West Bank. According to his statements, the lack of accountability and impunity of the attackers jeopardize the existence of ancient Christian communities in the region.
According to Vatican News, the situation in the village of Taybeh, the last fully Christian settlement in the West Bank, continues to deteriorate. Ihab Hassan, who has been working with the publication since July 2025, notes that settlers have yet to face any consequences for their actions. The human rights activist has documented numerous incidents of aggression, including burning vehicles, damaging property and illegally taking territory on the outskirts of towns.
The scale of violence covers vast areas from Hebron to Jenin. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 16 people have been killed in the West Bank since the beginning of this year. Hassan emphasizes that «the impetus for the settlers’ actions comes from the policies of the Israeli government,» which recently approved the establishment of 34 new settlements. These sites, recognized as illegal under international law, often serve as bases for attacks on Palestinian cities.
To combat the humanitarian crisis, Ihab Hassan has joined Save West Bank Christians, a project founded by American philanthropist Jason Jones. The initiative aims to bring global attention to the existential threat to Christians in the Holy Land. Hassan calls on believers around the world to show solidarity and put pressure on the responsible structures to stop the attacks. He cites the situation of a family from Jalud, who live in constant fear of a repeat attack, feeling completely abandoned to their fate.
