Mel Gibson has revealed details about the sequel to *The Passion of the Christ*: the film will be a two-part series in English

The long-awaited sequel to the 2004 box-office hit *The Passion of the Christ* is set to be released in a completely new format. Director Mel Gibson has announced that the film, titled *The Resurrection of Christ*, will be divided into two parts, and the narrative will be nonlinear, according to , as reported by The Christian Post.
Unlike the original film, which was shot in Aramaic and Latin, the new two-part series will be entirely in English. According to Gibson, this decision stems from the complexity of the theological material: the director wants viewers to be able to absorb the information instantly, without being distracted by reading subtitles. Work on the project has been underway for nearly ten years in collaboration with Randall Wallace, the screenwriter of *Braveheart*.
Production on the film has already wrapped: filming took place in Italy, including Rome, Matera, and other cities, and lasted 134 days. Gibson described the new project as a “complex puzzle” in which events intertwine to convey the scale of the biblical story as accurately as possible. The film promises to explore themes such as hell, the fall of the angels, and the origins of Satan.
Lionsgate has already set the release dates: the first part of *Resurrection* will premiere on May 6, 2027, and the second part will hit theaters on May 25, 2028. Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, called the project “a work of exceptional ambition,” adding that audiences have been waiting for this film for more than 20 years.
