A bloody attack was carried out on a Catholic mission in Nigeria

An armed attack on a Catholic mission station in the Nigerian diocese of Zaria left two people dead and a local community representative kidnapped. According to ACI Africa, the incident has sparked yet another wave of concern about the security situation in the region.

The tragedy occurred early in the morning on August 18 at the St. John Mission, located in the village of Ungwar-Mulki. A group of armed men stormed the compound and abducted one of the community elders. While attempting to carry out the crime, the attackers killed the abductee’s son, and another victim, who sustained serious injuries, died at a medical facility.

In light of the incident, a Catholic priest called on parishioners to pray fervently for the repose of the deceased and for the swift release of the hostage. At this time, the identities of the perpetrators and their motives remain unknown.

The situation in Nigeria remains extremely tense due to regular attacks by radical groups such as Boko Haram and the activities of Fulani armed groups. Representatives of the Roman Catholic Church have repeatedly called on government authorities to take more decisive action in the fight against terrorism and to protect the civilian population from criminal networks, noting the lack of adequate accountability for the organizers of such attacks.
