The Jerusalem Patriarchate stated that external interference in internal affairs is unacceptable

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem issued an official statement reaffirming its determination to protect church property throughout the Holy Land and to counter any attempts to exert external pressure on its institutions. According to Romfea.gr, the document pays particular attention to the situation surrounding the Monastery of St. Gerasimos of the Jordan (Deir Hajla).

According to the statement, following the passing of the monastery’s long-time abbot, Archimandrite Chrysostomos—who dedicated more than 55 years to serving the Church—the Patriarchate’s leadership began implementing the necessary administrative and economic reforms to normalize life at the monastery. The Patriarchate of Jerusalem emphasized that the management of monastic affairs, including personnel changes and financial audits, is the exclusive prerogative of the Church. Any attempts by third parties to influence these processes through social media or other means of pressure will be rejected.

The official statement also clarified the circumstances surrounding recent events: the Patriarchate refuted rumors regarding the departure of monks from the monastery, stating that they left voluntarily after submitting the appropriate requests. In conclusion, the Church leadership called on the faithful to support the ongoing reforms aimed at preserving the spiritual mission of Deir Hajla and its service to society.
